I started out in remodeling nearly 50 years ago and was in business more than 30 years before I attended my first Remodeling Show. Afterward I said, “Where have you been all my life?” I was learning things from the show that I wish I'd known when I started three decades earlier — and I haven't missed a show since.
To me, the Remodeling Show is one of the best kept secrets in the business. If every remodeler across the country knew how positive it would be for their practice, they would all be fighting to attend. A fellow contractor I met at one of the shows came up with a great strategy: He would stay an extra day after the show to review materials he had collected and information he had learned so he could really figure out how best to implement the great ideas from the show in his business.
Although my advice to everyone going to the show is to attend as many seminars as possible, the Remodeling Show isn't just about seminars. It's also about networking with peers, learning about new products and services, and having a good time (don't miss the Welcome Party at the Hard Rock Café on Thursday evening and the Remodelers' Roundup on the show floor on Friday afternoon). Also be sure to continue your networking and learning by visiting the National Association of Home Builders (NAHB) Remodelors Council at Booth 721.
There may be no better event than the Remodeling Show to help you and your business. My first show was a turning point in my career; I hope it will be for you too.
