A student at the University of Missouri ended up in the hospital after a deck collapsed during a party at the Pi Kappa Alpha fraternity in Columbia, Mo. A video taken at the scene and later posted on Twitter shows students jumping up and down on the packed deck shortly before the collapse, a reminder of why properly designed decks should include a safety factor to account for unanticipated loads. According to news reports, the property where the deck was located had passed a rental inspection earlier this year. Read more.
