Over the past couple of years, NADRA (the North American Deck and Railing Association) has been participating in the IRC's 2021 code development process, working with other stakeholders to further develop minimum standards and basic prescriptive design methods for common, residential deck construction. Code expert Glenn Mathewson has been intimately involved in that process, and has regularly been reporting back to NADRA's membership with details and discussion of each proposal. That process is finally over, and while not in print yet, the 2021 IRC is complete. In his latest NADRA blog post, Glenn summarizes the changes and improvements that deck builders can expect to see as local authorities transition from the 2018 to the 2021 IRC.
