Engineers at MiTek Builder Products have incorporated strategically placed "Seat Cleats" into the design of the new THFI joist hanger. The face-mount hanger for connecting I-joists to wood headers accomplishes the task without the need to nail into the joist. Instead, the Seat Cleats lock into the bottom flange of the I-joist, combining the installation ease of a top-mount hanger with the flexibility of a face-mount design. The THFI also features side flanges that extend to the top chord of the I-joist, so web stiffeners are also not required, meaning the design saves on both labor and material costs. Alignment tabs simplify the proper vertical alignment of the THFI, which has cleats to hold the hanger in place. The alignment tabs can easily be bent out of the way if they're not needed or if they impede larger joists, without sacrificing the hanger's strength.
