My company just completed this really fun 1960's remodel with Architect Webber + Studios and Interior Designer Jennifer Greer Hartman of Greer Interior Design.
The interior of the medicine cabinet was made from pre-finished birch plywood. We used a JR Products Touch latch you can find on Amazon for about $5. The painted door to the cabinet is made from Medex which is a dense/waterproof version of MDF. It takes paint well and won't absorb moisture like typical MDF. We used four Blum hinges with 110 opening to give a wider opening.
In short, none of these details are super tricky but they require a good team of craftsman to ensure this simple detail doesn't look sloppy when it's completed.
