After finishing the wall tile installation, the final step was grouting the tile. This step was fairly routine. The author used unsanded grout for the smaller lines between the subway wall tiles, applying the grout in the typical fashion.

With this white ceramic tile with fairly small grout joints, the author is able to grout one entire wall at a time. He begins by mixing the grout and letting it slake, or sit, for 10 minutes before remixing it to spread on the wall.

Diagonal Strokes to Fill the Joints

Using a rubber-edge grout trowel, the author applies the grout to the wall in diagonal strokes, which work better to fill the joints between the tiles.

Standing on a short step, the author makes sure that all the joints are completely filled, right up to the ceiling. He is able to work this entire wall at one time, spreading the grout from the ceiling to the floor.
