Horizontal siding, small metal-roofed porches, and steep gables help these houses blend in. Most new construction takes place on raw, suburban tracts of land. But a growing alternative in many areas is "infill development." Infill projects build on vacant lots in built-up areas. Usually found in larger cities, the infill trend is reaching small towns and older suburbs.
