Michael Jordan may have to think about changing his nickname. The former NBA superstar, known in his playing days as “Air,” in reference to his gravity-defying feats on a basketball court, is suing EIFS manufacturer Sto Corp., claiming that synthetic stucco trapped moisture in his Highland Park, Ill., home. Jordan and his wife, Juanita, allege that the moisture caused some $2.6 million worth of damage due to rot and mold.
Jordan is the latest and most recognizable name to file a lawsuit in what is becoming an increasingly public battle between homeowners and the construction industry over mold — a fight that the industry is losing, at least on a public-relations level. Bianca Jagger, Ed McMahon, and celebrity super-couple Brad Pitt and Jennifer Aniston are among those who have previously filed mold claims. Unlike some of the high-profile cases, however, there was no indication that the Jordans were suing for any damage to their health.
