In late June, Hayward, Calif., replacement contractor American Home Craft settled its lawsuit with the California attorney general.
The company was sued in November 2003 for alleged violations of the Federal Trade Commission's Do Not Call registry. The suit was one of the first since the implementation of the list.
Under the terms of the settlement, American Home Craft will pay $45,000 in civil penalties and $30,000 in legal fees.
The company will also pay $25,000 to the California residents who filed complaints — about $200 per violation, which is significantly lower than the $11,000 maximum price tag allowed.
