Value Behind Brand Finally, boomers are smart about scoping out value and even brag about it. They are savvy consumers who won’t buy a product just because of a brand name but because of the “story” that comes with the brand. Brands they choose reflect parts of their personalities, so many are attracted to unusual artisan products.

Although not as experimental in their selections as younger Gen Xers, affluent boomers are looking for the best and are not afraid to spend to get it. They will pay the price if they see a product’s value. The Hatbox toilet, for example, is premium priced, but it also reflects the consumer’s commitment to modernism.

Staying In Touch With Consumer Groups As upscale remodelers, you can put your fingers on the pulse of what consumer groups are craving by looking outside the industry in magazines, television, and other media. Investigate which brands —beyond home products — are popular with your clients and why.

Once you garner this consumer information you can use it to strategize, relating your business to what your clients will want in their homes and offering them exactly what they are looking for.

Take advantage of all the information that is available on consumer thinking and behavior, and implement what you have learned from your observations.
