Stanley has recently released new auto-locking versions of its well-known FatMax tape measures. On these new tapes, once the blade is extended, it catches automatically, eliminating the need to press a thumb lock. Tapes can be switched to self-retracting mode to operate like a traditional tape. The FatMax also comes with a hook extension that attaches to the end of the tape, making it larger and better suited for framing applications. Many features of the original FatMax Tape are still part of the new version including the 1 1/4-inch wide blade, the 11-foot standout, and the durable protective blade coating.
