The Adjustable-Length screwdriver allows tradesmen to travel light by using a single tool for applications requiring different length shafts. It consists of a cushioned handle and reversible shaft with a #2 Phillips blade on one end and a 1/4-inch slotted blade on the other. The shaft fits inside the handle and is held in position by a quick-locking mechanism; push away from the handle on the knurled ring to retract and towards the handle to extend. Able to grip anywhere along the length of the shaft, the locking mechanism can be used to hold the tip between 4 and 8 inches out from the handle. Just set it to the length you need to use.

This is one of those tools that when you see it you wonder why someone didn’t think of it before. It’s a simple idea, though I’m sure there was a degree of difficulty in creating an easy-to-use lock mechanism that’s also secure. The Adjustable-Length Screwdriver can potentially replace six screwdrivers you now have in your pouch or bag (4-, 6-, and 8-inch shafts in #2 Phillips or 1/4-inch slotted). It will be interesting to see if Klein offers additional shafts for this tool; I could see offering it with square drive and various Torx tips.
