Twenty-six locations operated by 84 Lumber Co., one of the nationís leading lumber dealers, now are selling Forest Stewardship Council (FSC)-certified wood. The FSC Chain of Custody Certification ensures that wood products meet the organizationís rigid standards from raw materials through processing, transformation, manufacturing, and distribution. The FSC, whose board includes lumber companies and dealers and environmentalists, coordinates the development of forest management standards throughout the United States.

Developing an Ad that Works
Mason F. Lord Jr. figures even a company that relies almost entirely on referrals ought to advertise. To ensure that potential clients recognize the company name when they hear it, Lord paid an agency $3,230 to develop a 12-times ad for the Litchfield County Times' color magazine. During the process, he also briefly consulted an ad review service at the Remodelers' Show provided by the NAHB's National Sales and Marketing Council.
