The 10mm Sure Cavity rainscreen drainage plane from MTI maintains a space (a bit more than 3/8 inch) between veneer materials and the structural wall to drain incidental moisture and keep the building enclosure dry. Channels provide a gap for ventilation and enable moisture to travel down and out the bottom of the wall. According to the manufacturer, the rainscreen’s high-impact polystyrene ensures durability and prevents compression and waviness, and the adhered fabric blocks mortar or stucco from filling the drainage space.
